Gunay Hasanova completed her secondary education from 1989 to 2000 at the secondary school in Düz Qırıqlı village, Tovuz district. She earned her bachelors degree from 2000 to 2004 at the Faculty of History, Sumgait State University, and completed her masters degree with honors from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2011, she pursued doctoral studies at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in History in 2014.
In 2008, she worked as a research associate at the Azerbaijan Independence Museum. From 2008 to 2019, she served as a senior inspector and department head in the justice authorities. Between 2019 and 2021, she was a chief specialist at the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, and from 2021 to 2022, she worked as a department head at Western Caspian University. Currently, she continues her career as a lecturer in the Department of History at Western Caspian University.
Her dissertation topic was: “Everyday Life Culture of the Azerbaijani People” – an ethnographic study.
She is the author of the monograph titled “Traditional Everyday Life Culture of Azerbaijan,” as well as course programs for “Fundamentals of Ethnography,” “History and Historiography of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic,” and “The Role of Museums in the Teaching and Research of History.”
Teaching focus:Fundamentals of Ethnography, Ethnography of the Peoples of the Caucasus, Azerbaijani History, History and Historiography of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, The Role of Museums in the Teaching and Research of History.She is the founder and chairperson of the Public Association for Supporting Ethnographic Research.
