Chair of History
The Department of History is one of the key academic and structural units within the School of Political and Social Sciences at Western Caspian University. Its core mission is to preserve and disseminate fundamental knowledge in the fields of humanities and social sciences, safeguard national-cultural heritage and historical memory, and contribute to the formation of new generations of citizens equipped with a sense of national identity and a global outlook. The department is primarily committed to training highly qualified historians at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, and to organizing and conducting scientific research activities.
The main areas of activity of the Department of History include:
Teaching Process – The department delivers a broad range of academic courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including Azerbaijani History, Ancient History, Eastern History, History of Turkic Peoples, Modern History, American History, Ethnography, Numismatics, Archaeology, and the Methodology of History Teaching. The curriculum emphasizes the development of analytical and critical thinking skills and fosters the ability to interpret and analyze historical sources.
Scientific Research – Faculty members conduct research on contemporary issues in the field of history at both national and international levels. They participate in local and international conferences and publish scholarly articles, monographs, curricula, and educational materials. Research is particularly focused on regional history, national statehood traditions, cultural heritage, and historical demography.
Public and Educational Outreach – The department actively organizes various projects and events aimed at promoting historical heritage, enhancing public interest in history, and preserving national and moral values. This includes collaborations with museums, historical excursions, academic seminars, conferences, public lectures, and scholarly discussions.
International Cooperation – The department strives to establish academic ties with universities and research institutions in various countries, participates in international projects, and engages in academic exchange programs.
In addition to the generation and transmission of scholarly knowledge, the Department of History plays a strategic role in fostering historical consciousness in society and strengthening humanistic values.
