International Conference on “The Impact of Empires: Representations of Peoples, Territories, and Sovereignty in the Caucasus and Surrounding Regions” Held

An international scientific conference titled “The Impact of Empires: Representations of Peoples, Territories, and Sovereignty in the Caucasus and Surrounding Regions” was held at Western Caspian University.

In addition to the university’s leadership and academic staff, the conference brought together distinguished scholars and researchers representing reputable higher education institutions from various countries.

Opening the event, Professor Huseyn Baghirov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Western Caspian University, highlighted the significance of the conference and emphasized the importance of examining the historical and geopolitical dimensions of the Caucasus region within the framework of international academic discourse.

The conference then featured presentations by Professor Thomas Barfield of Boston University, Professor Dr. Elio Brancaforte of Tulane University, Professor Dr. Detlef Haberland of the University of Oldenburg, Dr. Irina Shingiray, researcher at the University of Oxford, and Emma Schubert, representative of Tulane University.

As part of the conference, extensive academic discussions were held on the history of the Caucasus region, the influence of empires on the area, representations of peoples and territories, and the impact of historical and political processes on regional development.

Presentations were also delivered by Professor Irada Huseynova, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Head of the Department of History of the Peoples of the Caucasus at Baku State University; Associate Professor Dr. Shafag Dadashva of ADA University; Professor Nizami Suleymanov of the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC); Professor Fazil Bakhshaliyev of Baku State University; and other distinguished scholars. Their presentations provided comprehensive insights into the historical heritage of the Caucasus, regional relations, and contemporary scholarly approaches, offering an in-depth perspective on the conference theme.

The conference continued with interactive discussions and a question-and-answer session involving participants.
